Book Club: Aug 3, 2021: Northrop Frye – The Educated Imagination
Tuesday, August 3 (because of holiday weekend): a classic!
Chair: Germaine Warkentin
Host: Linda Hutcheon
These four brief essays started life as the 1962 Massey Lectures and still stand today as Canada’s acclaimed literary scholar’s most accessible (and enjoyable) exploration of the value of literature in our social, political and religious worlds. As he puts it: “Literature as a whole is not an aggregate of exhibits with red and blue ribbons attached to them, like a cat-show, but the range of articulate human imagination as it extends from the height of imaginative heaven to the depth of imaginative hell.”
We are delighted to include as a supplementary pleasure, two CBC radio programs featuring our colleague Deanne Bogdan speaking on Northrup Frye.
