Title: “An Islands Odyssey”

Introducer: Monique Nemni

Host: Linda Hutcheon

ABSTRACT: This session brings together two political scientists and a neuroscientist to share their thoughts on islands through the lens of ecology.   David Milne will give a remembrance of islands past and set out his research on island resilience, contesting commonplace themes of island vulnerability and viability.  Edward Warrington will give a slide show featuring seven different island types or ‘species’ of governance. Harold Atwood will in turn show the deep stake that natural evolutionary scientists have in island places and ecologies. Here again, vulnerability of fragile island ecosystems reappears as a central theme.
